Economic Growth
Our Economic Futures Group will build on the exceptional results of the past two years to expand and diversify our economy.
- Launch the Community Web Portal
- Continue our recruitment of low fare air service
- Partner in the creation of an entrepreneurial support system
- Entice new investment and encourage local expansions
Sustainability
More and more, communities are evaluated on their sustainability activities. The business community has a leadership role.
- Be an advocate for the business role in sustainability
- Provide ideas and information to the business community
- Be an active participant in shaping this community’s programs for sustainability
Workforce Development
To meet employer needs, we need to be proactive in shaping the programs to meet “The Talent Challenge”
- Design and launch a Middle Skills Initiative to meet employer needs.
- Seek to enhance jobs/talent matching systems
The Visitor Economy
Our Convention and Visitors Bureau is leading a major set of initiatives to grow the visitor economy.
- Complete and implement the County Tourism Action Plan
- Enhance CVB visibility in the Chamber of Commerce building
- Build visitation through the new website www.visitspartanburg.com
Education
Education is among our highest priorities. This year, the Chamber will continue its leadership role.
- Participate in the launch of the Chamber’s 40/30 College Completion plan
- Define our role in a new Middle Skills Initiative
Public Policy
This is the year we add political involvement to build our influence in the public policy forum.
- Utilize the Chamber’s PAC to enhance business influence in legislative deliberations.
- Advocate for substantial policy changes for economic development and business climate issues.
- Support comprehensive overhaul of tax policies
Communications
Our need to bring our message well beyond our community will be enhanced
- Launch the new Spartanburg Community Web Portal
- Enhance our use of social media to build awareness support
Regional Engagement
Our economy is decidedly regional and we will continue to participate in selected regional activities.
- Support the Upstate Coalition and the Upstate Caucus
- Encourage regional involvement in issues of resources, transportation, planning and economic growth
Diversity
Strengthen the business and entrepreneurial capacity of the minority communities.
- Provide enhanced forum for networking and professional development
