First Responders Memorial Planned for Barnet Park

The City of Spartanburg Public Safety Department recently announced the unveiling of the First Responders Memorial plans at Barnet Park. The First Responders Memorial is designed to recognize those individuals who gave their lives serving the citizens of Spartanburg County.
In 2011, a committee of first responders with the assistance of local architects, developed plans for the memorial park. The committee included police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel from Spartanburg County. The committee's goal was to identify a location near the downtown area of the City of Spartanburg and lead the overall design of the entire project.
The committee selected Barnet Park near the corner of North Converse Street and Silver Hill Street as the location of the memorial, honoring the first responders who lost their lives while serving our community. After many drafts and hard work, the project design for the First Responders Memorial is now complete. The official unveiling of the plans for this historic memorial honoring our fallen brothers and sisters was on May 31, 2012.
